Italian major Eni is a 'platinum' sponsor of the Expo 2020 Dubai taking place from 1 October to 31 March 2022 and will use the global trade fair to showcase its technological innovation focussed on decarbonisation, renewable energy and circular economy strategies.
Eni will attend the Italian Pavilion with an installation created by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota innovation and design studio, which artistically recreates microalgae cultivation by using a cascade of technological liana vines that are up to 20 metres long, the company said in a statement.
The microalgae flow through each of the LED lit lianas, making the see-through circuit "a spectacular exhibition of microalgae biologic process and growth in the photobioreactor where, feeding on CO2, these unicellular organisms produce high-value compounds and more," said the statement.
In a series of videos viewable in the Eni area of the Italian Pavilion and a programme of events and talks at the fair, the company will highlight the work it is doing with over 70 universities and research centres around the world to minimise carbon impact in energy production, the statement ended.
Expo 2020 was postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
