The European Union's 800 billion euro post-pandemic recovery fund and its Conference on the Future of Europe are at the centre of an Italy-Spain dialogue meeting in Barcelona starting Friday, which premier Mario Draghi and foreign minister Luigi Di Maio are attending.
Spain's premier Pedro Sanchez will also take part in the 18th Italy-Spain Dialogue Forum, a traditional annual meeting between top representatives from the two countries' business and academic communities, said a foreign ministry statement.
Di Maio is attending the Dialogue Forum through Saturday and will hold talks there with his Spanish counterpart Arancha Gonzalez Laya. He will also make a virtual address from Barcelona to the Conference on the Future of Europe (taking place through Spring 2022), said the statement.
An initiative of the European Commission, the Conference on the Future of Europe will look at medium and long-term reforms to the EU's policies and institutions.
The last Dialogue Forum was held in Rome on 19 and 20 October, the foreign ministry stated.
