A court on Monday sentenced the former mayor of Italy's northwest Italian city, Marta Vincenzi, to five years in prison over the flooding that killed six people there in 2011.
The lower court in Genoa found Vincenzi guilty of manslaughter, environmental disaster and of falsifying information on the sequence of events when river Fereggiano burst its banks on 4 November 2011.
The subsequent flooding killed two Italian women, an Albanian woman, an Indian woman and two small daughters.
Vincenzi claims she is innocent of wrongdoing and said she will appeal her sentence.
Prosecutors had asked for a six years and one year jail term for Vincenzi.
