Green, white and red stripes were beamed onto the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation's headquarters in Rome on Tuesday - the colours of Italy's flag - the Italian mission to the international organisations based in Rome tweeted.
"The FAO is lighting itself up with the colours of the Italian flag to express affection and solidarity with Italy at the dramatic time," read the tweet.
The tweet showed a photo of the illuminated FAO building.
Italy is now the global epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic and has recorded far more deaths from Covid-19 - 6,820 - than any other country including China.
