The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation and France's international public broadcaster have inked an accord to strengthen their cooperation and increase synergies to fight to eradicate hunger, combat climate change and boost sustainable development, FAO said Friday in a statement.
The agreement signed this week between France Medias Monde and FAO envisages possible media production opportunities with Radio France International, TV news channel France 24 and the French mainly Arab speaking Monte Carlo Doualiya radio station, the statement said.
Programmes produced under the new agreement will "give voice to people's efforts on the ground and help promote innovative solutions," the statement said.
The accord will encourage journalists and FAO experts to pool resources and will provide opportunities for interviews aired on the FFM group channels, according to the statement.
Under the accord, FAO will help FMM programmes such as 'C'est pas du vent', ' Le coq chante' (RFI), 'Element Terre', 'Down to Earth' (France 24) and 'Le journal de l'environnement' (MCD) to give better coverage of food, nutrition, food systems and sustainable agriculture-related projects and the key role of women and youth in rural areas in preventing hunger.
The agreement will also allow FAO's public outreach campaigns to be broadcast through FMM in 15 languages, the statement concluded.
