Fishermen detained off the eastern port city of Benghazi have been in contact with Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and are "in constant touch" with his staff, the owner of one of two seized fishing boats told Adnkronos on Wednesday.
"We are in the government's hands and are waiting for some good news," said Leonardo Gancitano, owner of the 'Antartide', which was seized late on Tuesday.
"We are in constant touch with the foreign ministry and I have heard from Di Maio and from (justice) minister (Alfonso) Bonafede," he said.
The Italian government is working on the case which the fishermen hope will be resolved quickly, Gancitano added.
"I haven't slept since yesterday. We are exhausted," he stated.
Eastern Libyan security forces held the 'Antartide' and the 'Medinea' at around 9pm on Wednesday for allegedly entering Libyan waters, according to the fishing fleet in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily.
Eastern Libyan security forces also held the skippers of two other Italian fishing vessels along with the captains and crew of the 'Antartide' and 'Medina', the Mazara del Vallo fleet said.
