Pope Francis on Tuesday urged Catholics to avail themselves of the Lord's mercy, which he said would always trump sin.
"The mercy of God will always be greater than any sin," Francis tweeted from his @Pontifex account.
The pontiff has declared a Jubilee Year of Mercy, during which believers around the world are encouraged to renew their relationship with God and seek forgiveness for their sins, according to a 700-year-old tradition.
Rome is expected to welcome over 30 million pilgrims during the Year of Mercy, which began on 8 December and ends on 30 November 2016.
