Italy's populist government will put its security and immigration decree to a confidence vote on Monday in the upper house of parliament, where several Senators from the ruling grassroots 5Star Movement are expected to vote against the measure.
The government won a confidence motion in the lower house of parliament in July on the decree in a victory for hardline interior minister Matteo Salvini, who leads the far-right League party.
Salvini drew up the decree - which toughens sanctions on charity ships that try to bring rescued migrants to Italy, including big fines.
The decree needs final approval by the Senate to become law.
