The foreign ministry is "assessing all possible measures" to protect Italian citizens in the Chinese city of Wuhan - epicentre of the new coronavirus outbreak - deputy foreign minister Emanuela Del Re told public radio on Tuesday.
"The (foreign ministry's) Crisis Unit is assessing all possible measures to safeguard our compatriots in Wuhan," Del Rel told Radioanchio.
"I invite everyone to check the website (Travel Safely section) to get the latest information," Del Re said, according to a Radioanchio tweet.
Over 106 people have died from the Wuhan virus and more than 4,500 cases have been confirmed in mainland China since mid-December. Over a dozen countries around the world have confirmed cases of the virus, and authorities are struggling to control its rapid spread.
The new coronavirus is thought to have emerged from illegally traded wildlife at a seafood market in Wuhan and can now spread between people. Symptoms can appear mild and include a cough and fever.
