United Nations refugee agency chief Filippo Grandi has hailed Colombia's outgoing president, Ivan Duque for having allowed refugees and migrants from crisis-hit Venezuela to enter and remain in his country.
"As his mandate ends, I wish to recognize the work of @IvanDuque and Colombia to receive and regularize refugees and migrants from Venezuela," Grandi tweeted on Friday.
"This work leaves a significant mark, which I have witnessed during my visits to Colombia," the tweet went on.
"Thank you for your commitment," the tweet ended.
Duque, a conservative, this week hands over the presidency to his successor, leftist politician and former Bogota mayor, Gustavo Petro
Under Colombia's constitution, a president may serve a single four-year term.
