United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres will meet premier Giuseppe Conte on Wednesday in Rome during a visit to Italy, where he will also hold talks with the country's president Sergio Mattarella, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and other top officials.

Guterres and Conte's meeting is slated for 7pm local time on Wednesday at Villa Madama and will be followed by a joint media stakeout, according to a statement from Conte's office.

Guterres will also address a special session at the Italian Senate upper house of parliament, where he will mull global challenges and appeal for a renewed commitment to multilateralism and international solidarity, according to his spokesman's office.

On Thursday, Guterres will head to Brindisi in southern Italy to mark the 25th anniversary of the UN's Global Service Center, a logistics facility providing crucial support to peacekeeping and political operations throughout the world, Italy's foreign ministry said.

Guterres and Di Maio will give addresses at the Brindisi ceremony and will hold a joint press conference afterwards, according to the foreign ministry.

Speakers at the event also include UNGSC director Giovanna Ceglie, Brindisi's mayor Riccardo Rossi and the surrounding Puglia region's governor Michele Emiliano, the foreign ministry stated.
