Italy is fully committed to upholding human rights which "will be the real challenge of 21 century," the country's deputy foreign minister Emanuela Del Re said on Thursday.
"Personally I believe that the preservation of Universal Human Rights will be the real challenge of 21 century," read a tweet from Del Re.
Del Re on Thursday took part via videolink in a conference organised at the United Nations General Assembly to mark the 15th anniversary of the unanimous adoption by heads of state and government of the principle of responsibility to protect (RTP) at the United Nations World Summit in 2005.
"We have the responsibility to protect and we must prevent atrocities and uphold human rights," Del Re wrote in an earlier tweet.
