G20 nations will step up assistance to Taliban controlled Afghanistan to stop a "humanitarian catastrophe" engulfing the country with the onset of winter, Italy said stated on Thursday, adding that such help is "essential".
"At the G20 foreign ministers' meeting that I chaired (on Wednesday) in New York, we looked at the essential priorities in Afghanistan," Di Maio wrote on Facebook.
Besides supporting humanitarian organisations present in the country and the UN, the G20 will continue to channel more resources to assist the Afghan people," Di Maio wrote.
"This support is necessary to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe, above all with the onset of winter, economic collapse, and the high risk of migrant flows," Di Maio went on
