A colonel from Iran's Revolutionary Guards force was killed in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.
Fars said the colonel, Ezzatollah Soleimani, had been advising the Syrian army in Aleppo, where it has been mounting an offensive against rebel forces in recent weeks with support from the Russian airforce.
Two other Iranian Revolutionary Guard commanders were killed in Aleppo and another commander in central Homs province in late October, while seven lower-ranking members of the elite force were killed in several Syrian provinces, Fars said.
