Islamic State arrest Syrian woman for not wearing gloves

The Islamic State's moral police force arrested an ungloved woman in its northern Syrian stronghold of al-Raqqa for "violation of the legitimate dress code", a monitoring group reported on Tuesday.

The woman was arrested by IS's 'Hisbah' moral police at the western entrance to the city after militants allegedly caught her not wearing gloves, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The woman was taken to one of IS's headquarters in Raqqa, said the UK-based monitor, which relies for its information on a network of activists inside Syria.

Hisbah members also raided an internet cafe in Raqqa on Tuesday and arrested several people who were inside at the time, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

IS, an Al-Qaeda splinter group, declared an Islamic caliphate in June 2014 with Raqqa as its capital.

IS controls swathes of territory in Syria and neighbouring Iraq, where it imposes its extremist interpretation of Islam on the local population.
