Islamic State 'downs US warplane in Syria'

The Islamic State jihadist group has shot down a United States airforce A10 fighter jet in northern Syria, the US-based terrorist tracking organisation SITE reported on Thursday.

IS fighters brought down the warplane near Markadah, south of the town of al-Hasaka, SITE quoted the IS-affiliated Amaq news agency as saying.

Washington did not immediately confirm or deny the alleged downing.
