Islamic State executes three 'spies' in northern Iraq

Three Kurds in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul were put to death by the Islamic State militant group, a Kurdistan Democratic Party official was cited as telling local broadcaster Rudaw on Thursday.

“On Thursday, ISIS executed three Kurdish people for spying and releasing information in Mosul,” Rudaw quoted the KDP's local media officer Saeed Mamuzini as saying.

A woman was among the victims, who were named by Mamuzini as Ali Rasheed Sleman and his wife Fatiha Haider, as well as Ali Mahmoud.

IS militants raided the victims’ homes last week and on Thursday they were accused of spying and summarily executed, said Mamuzini.

The charges against the victims were unfounded he said.

IS reportedly executed a number of its Kurdish members in September last year on charges of spying for the Peshmerga forces.

IS overran Mosul in June last year after the rapid capitulation of the Iraqi military, whose members reportedly abandoned their posts as the jihadis advanced. Christians and other minorities have since fled.
