Italian will be part of the curriculum in Libya's secondary schools starting in September next year under a bilateral accord signed in Tripoli on Wednesday, Italy's embassy tweeted.
"Italy language will be officially taught in Libya upper secondary schools starting from 2020/2021 school year," read the tweet.
"Today in Tripoli the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with Minister of Education HE Ammari for training new Libyan teachers in Italy," the tweet added.
Photos of the signing ceremony were uploaded with the tweet.
Oil-rich Libya was an Italian colony from 1911-1943 and Italy has major business interests there especially in the energy sector.
