An Italian women may be among the victims of the deadly truck attack at a busy Christmas market in downtown Berlin, according to reports trending on Twitter Tuesday.
The reports said police were handed the woman's mobile phone by a man who found it at the Breitscheidplatz market, where a Polish-registered truck ploughed through shoppers late Monday, killing twelve people.
Adnkronos was unable to reach anyone at German company where the Italian woman worked for a comment on the Twitter reports.
The Italian embassy in Berlin also declined to comment on the reports.
Social network users were meanwhile trying to locate the Italian woman.
A Polish man, believed to be the truck's original driver was found shot dead on its passenger seat, Germany’s interior minister Thomas de Maiziere said on Tuesday.
The identities and nationalities of the other eleven victims are not yet known, due to Germany's strict privacy laws.
National and European Union flags were ordered to fly at half-mast on public buildings throughout Italy on Tuesday in a mark of respect, the prime minister's office said.
A Pakistani suspect has been arrested over the attack but police said on Tuesday they believe the perpetrator may still be at large.
