The foreign ministry and Italy's embassy in Madrid are arranging two special flights on Tuesday from Fuerteventura and Lanzarote to airlift Italians to Milan's Malpensa airport, the Italian embassy in Spain tweeted.
Spain is suffering Europe's second worst outbreak of the new coronavirus (Covid-19). The Spanish government has introduced a 15-day state of emergency, which it said on Monday will need to be extended and is also considering closing the country's borders.
The government’s official coronavirus death toll rose to 288 on Sunday, with 7,753 confirmed cases of infection.
