Italy and Germany are looking to achieve "ever more ambitious cooperation" also on obtaining a negotiated, lasting peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine, the foreign ministry tweeted on Friday.
"Fruitful consultations between @luigidimaio and the German foreign minister @ABaerbock, for ever more ambitious cooperation," read the tweet after talks between Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock.
"Full agreement on the necessity for a pragmatic approach that promotes a negotiated and sustainable solution of the conflict in Ukraine," the tweet added.
Di Maio and Baerbock held talks on the sidelines of a G7 foreign ministers meeting in Germany which backed giving more aid and weapons to Ukraine and highlighted food security concerns and fears that the war could spread to neighbouring Moldova.
