The Italian government has approved overseas aid worth 86.3 million euros for 25 projects, including 48 million euros for initiatives in Africa, America Latina, and the Middle East.
Mozambique will receive 35 million euros of aid credits to help its agrifood sector, while 48 million euros have been set aside to boost socio-economic development, food security, governance, education and school infrastructure, female entrepreneurship, health services, environmental protection and gender equality.
A total of 3.3 million euros are destined for international aid organisations, a foreign ministry statement said on Friday.
"We have been able to approve a substantial package of initiatives and projects, with a significant financial commitment," said deputy foreign minister Marina Sereni.
The overseas aid package was given a green light on Thursday by the fifth annual meeting of the Joint Committee on Development Cooperation, which Sereni chaired, the statement said.
The foreign ministry's director-general for development cooperation, Giorgio Marrapodi and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation's director Luca Maestripieri attended Thursday's meeting.
The director of the finance ministry's International Financial Relations Office, Leone Gianturco, also took part in the meeting, which was the last held by the committee in 2021, the statement noted.
