Italy wants increasing European Union involvement in efforts to end Ethiopia's brutal 19-month-old civil war, the foreign ministry tweeted Thursday amid a stalemate since the central government declared a 'humanitarian truce' in northern Tigray province in late March.
"Foreign minister Luigi Di Maio met with the Ethiopian prime minister's national security advisor Redwan Hussien," read the tweet.
"Italy supports progressive #EU re-engagement to facilitate definitive cessation of hostilities, effective and inclusive national dialogue and a political solution to the conflict," the tweet added.
