The government is looking at ways to ensure American tourists return "in droves" when COVID-19 vaccination campaigns wrap up and Italy re-opens its Coronavirus-hit economy, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Wednesday.
"We are working with the European Union on the proposed Digital Green Certificate that will allow people who have been vaccinated to travel more easily," Di Maio told Radio Confapi.
The United States wants to complete its mass immunization campaign by 4 July, according to the US government's top medical advisor Anthony Fauci, Di Maio noted.
"We also hope to be able to create these conditions for US tourists, who are crucial for our art cities. I am confident that when we can re-open, tourists will return in droves," Di Maio said.
