Italy on Thursday renewed its condemnation of Russia's over-six-month-long military assault on Ukraine and its impact on poorer countries, urging G20 nations to strive for inclusive economic recovery.

"Condemnation of Russian aggression to #Ukraine affecting most vulnerable countries," tweeted the foreign ministry after Italy's deputy foreign minister Marina Sereni addressed a G20 ministers meeting on Indonesia's island of Belitung.

"Commitment to (the United Nations') SDGs (sustainable development goals): food security, energy transition, women's and youth rights, social protection, health systems, role of SMEs (small-to-medium-sized enterprises)," the tweet added.

“We must resolutely step up our collective efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals of Agenda 2030; we need an inclusive recovery, which must primarily aim to bolster the resilience of developing countries”, Sereni told a G20 panel discussion, according to a foreign ministry statement.

Sereni underlined the importance of gender equality-related issues; women’s and children’s rights; forging social protection and healthcare services; the contribution of SMEs to the development of balanced and effective economic systems; and the quest for innovative means of private and public funding, the statement said.

"All this must go hand in hand with the necessary and paramount attention to climate change and with an equitable energy transition, which, while reducing climate-changing emissions, must ensure tangible support to developing countries in order for them to overcome their vulnerabilities," the statement cited Sereni as saying.
