Under a longstanding strategic partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, Italy is to fund new technical cooperation projects in Iraq, Jordan and Sudan, UNIDO tweeted on Wednesday.

"To support partner countries in their efforts to foster inclusive and sustainable industrial development, Italy, one of our largest donors, approved for funding 3 new UNIDO interventions in Iraq, Jordan and Sudan," read the tweet.

The new Iraq project centres on safety monitoring and operational management of Mosul Dam, which once stabilised will allow 50% more water storage and help ensure a safe and reliable water supply in Iraq in the long-term, UNIDO said.

The new project in Jordan aims to strengthen the role of a new garment design and training service centre in Irbid, to create links to the textile industry and upgrade at least 20 textile firms in Amman and in the north of the country, help 20 local designers there to flourish and train some 200 people.

The 36-month project in Sudan seeks to seeks to boost resilience and entrepreneurship among farmers in the east of the country, improving their access to finance and to renewable energy agro-products with including that of youth and women. Around 15,000 people across 15 communities and villages in the region are expected to benefit directly from the project, according to UNIDO.
