Italy and Morocco are cooperating to stabilise and develop Africa's sub-Saharan Sahel region, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio told a meeting in Marrakesh of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS.
'Italy and Morocco are extremely committed to stabilising the Sahel and cooperating to stabilise the Sahel and foster peace and development in the region," Di Maio said in an address.
The Marrakesh meeting of the 84-member Coalition is "politically a crucial event in the fight against terrorism," Di Maio stated.
''I am extremely pleased about this event, which is key for bilateral relations, but also for the contribution that we can give in a climate of cooperation and partnership in the Mediterranean and in North Africa," Di Maio added.
The Coalition meeting in Marrakesh is being chaired by Morocco and the United States.
