Italy has been re-elected to the executive committee of the Open Government Partnership - a multilateral initiative to strengthen governance - the foreign ministry tweeted on Friday.
"This confirms at domestic and international level (Italy's) commitment to transparent public administration, the rule of law and the fight against corruption," the tweet stated.
Italy's second consecutive term of office of our country will start in October and will last three years, the foreign ministry said.
Currently, 78 countries adhere to the Open Government Partnership, which aims for concrete commitments from participating governments on promoting transparency, supporting civic participation, countering graft and spreading the use of new technologies to foster innovation.
A growing number of local governments, representing more than two billion people, along with thousands of civil society organizations are members of the OPG, according to its website.
