The Italian government wants to assist Croatia, European affairs minister Vincenzo Amendola tweeted Tuesday after a powerful earthquake caused death, injury and destruction in a central area of the country
"Solidarity and closeness with Croatia's institutions and people. Italy is ready to play its part," read Amendola's tweet.
At least two people were killed and 20 were injured when the magnitude 6.4 quake devastated the town of Petrinja, 46 kilometres from the Croatian capital Zagreb, at 11.14 am GMT.
People were also injured in the nearby town of Sisak during the tremor, which could be felt in Zagreb, in neighbouring Bosnia and Serbia, and as far away as Italy.
The same area was struck by a 5.2 quake on Monday.
