Serbia has Italy's "full support" for its bid to join the European Union, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Thursday after talks in Rome with his Serbian counterpart Iva Dacic.
"Italy is at the forefront of efforts to back Serbia's European integration process and EU-sponsored dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina," the foreign ministry said in a tweet accompanying a video of Dacic's visit to the foreign ministry.
"We are working together to organise an Italy-Serbia business forum to boost bilateral trade and exports," the tweet added.
During his "wide-ranging" talks with Dacic, Di Maio said he underlined Italy's "full support" for Serbia's entry into the EU.
Di Maio hailed the "fruitful" relationship between Italy and Serbia and between Italian and Serbian companies, thanking Dacic for his visit - his first since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Serbia has a pre-accession Association Agreement with the EU and is a membership candidate, even though the bloc currently lacks appetite for new members.
