Foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on Thursday reaffirmed Italy's support for Libya's international recognised Government of National Accord and inclusive peace negotiations to the war-torn country mediated by the United Nations.
"Italy backs the GNA and a political process led by the UN, reiterating that there can be no military solution to the crisis," Di Maio tweeted after meeting Libya's foreign minister Mohammed Taher Siyala in Rome.
Libya - a former Italian colony - is high on the agenda at the fifth Rome MED - Mediterranean Dialogues Conference on Friday and Saturday.
The meeting is due to be attended by representatives of over 55 countries including 40 world leaders, Di Maio, Siyala and numerous foreign ministers, as well as 1,000 business people senior officials and representatives of the major international organisations, scholars and experts.
