Italy seeks stronger ties with Sudan

Italy's wants to boost cooperation with Sudan and strengthen bilateral ties, especially in the areas of education, training and education, infrastructure and green energy, deputy foreign minister Emanuela De Re said on Thursday.

"Sudan has long been a priority country for our overseas development department and offers extensive opportunities to Italian businesses," Del Re told the 'Doing business in the new Sudan' webinar.

"We now want to broaden our areas of intervention, especially by focusing on professional training and education, to nurture human capital and release new energy to propel the country's growth," Del Re stated.

Del Re's Sudanese counterpart Omar Gamar Aldeen Ismail attended the webinar organized by the Italian embassy in Sudan and the foreign ministry in collaboration with Confindforeignstria Assafrica & Mediterraneo and economic monthly 'Africa e Affari'.

The Vice Minister underlined the renewed interest of the international community in Sudan and widespread support for the path of reforms "courageously undertaken".

She recalled her visit to the country in March which allowed her to witness Sudan's commitment to socio-economic and institutional reconstruction of the country.

"Italy wants to support this process," Del Re said, hailing the country's "the solid and ancient bilateral relations" with Sudan.

"Italy intends to reinforce bilateral partnership with Sudan alongside the economic one. Meeting such as the webinar Doing business in the new Sudan can provide a useful exchange of ideas around what is being done and what can be accomplished in the future for a bilateral trade growth!
