Italy wants to boost cooperation with Serbia especially on migration and backs the Balkan country's European Union membership bid, interior minister Luciana Lamorgese told her Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vulin during a video-conference on Tuesday.
The talks covered various areas of mutual interest starting with migration to Europe along the Balkan route and including police cooperation, an interior ministry statement said.
Lamorgese "confirmed Italy's commitment to Serbia's path to EU entry" and told Vulin she wants to "intensify and strengthen" cooperation between their ministries.
The minister "expressed satisfaction" that negotiations on an accord to increase cooperation between Italian and Serbian investigators probing drugs trafficking are now in their final stage, the statement said.
