In a message to mark Earth Day, Italy's foreign ministry underlined the country's commitment to fighting climate change and to safeguarding the environment.
"The foreign ministry joins the celebrations of the 50th Earth Day, the world day dedicated to our planet," said a statement.
"On this occasion, Italy reaffirms its strong commitment to the climate and to environmental protection, in view of the next COP26 and the pre-COP meeting that will be hosted by our country," the statement added.
The key United Nations climate talks due to be held in Glasgow in November have been postponed until 2021 as governments around the world struggle to halt the spread of coronavirus.
The decision was made by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Britain and Italy, which had been due to host some preparatory events.
