Italy's government and people are "close" to Croatia, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio stated on Tuesday after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck south-east of the capital, Zagreb, killing at least two people.
"Italy is close to the government and people of Croatia at this difficult time. My thoughts go especially to the victims and their families and the injured," Di Maio wrote.
Authorities said two people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed and at least 20 people were injured in the town of Petrinja, 46 kilometres from Zagreb, when the quake struck at 11.14 am GMT.
People were also injured in the nearby town of Sisak.
The area was hit by a 5.2 quake on Monday and several smaller aftershocks were felt on Tuesday..
