'Italy considers Turkey a key partner," Di Maio said at joint press conference in Rome after talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
"We want to strengthen dialogue on a frank and constructive basis," Di Maio added.
Di Maio thanked Turkey for its help to Italy at the height of the country's dramatic COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year when it was the European epicentre of the pandemic.
Cavusoglu described Turkey's relations with Italy as "very good".
"We want to further enhance bilateral ties in order to move forward together," he added.
The Turkish foreign minister also said he hoped Italy's upcoming presidency of the G20 would be a "big success".
