Citizens who take up arms to defend Ukraine from Russia's month-old military onslaught face criminal charges under Italian law, the foreign ministry warned on Thursday.
"In respect of media reports of Italian taking part in the Ukraine war, the ministry recalls that such conduct may be deemed criminal under current law," the ministry said in a statement.
"The foreign ministry underlines that in order to safeguard Italian citizens, it is absolutely inadvisable to travel to the country (Ukraine)," the statement added.
