Italy on Wednesday hailed Colombia's entry to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which groups the world's most industrialised nations.
"We welcome Colombia into the family of the OECD as its 37th member," read a tweet on the Italian foreign ministry's website.
Colombia is the third member of the Latin American and Caribbean region to join OECD, along with Mexico and Chile.
Considered one of the most unequal countries on the planet, Colombia has recently emerged from five decades of civil war.
OECD announced Colombia's accession in a statement on its website on Wednesday.
