Lebanon's ongoing political, financial and social crisis were the focus of talks in Bkerki on Monday between Italy's envoy to Lebanon Nicoletta Bombardiere and Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Rahi, the embassy tweeted.
"Ambassador Bombardiere paid a visit to the Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Rahi in @bkerki," read the tweet.
"The meeting offered the opportunity to review current developments in Lebanon and to underline the need for action to solve the political and socio- economic crisis faced by the country."
Protesters blocked some roads in the Lebanese capital with burning tyres Monday after talks on the formation of a long-delayed new cabinet collapsed. Premier-designate Saad Hariri blamed president Michel Aoun for the breakdown of the talks, accusing him of trying to obtain veto power for his allies.
