Jordan is a "strategic player" for the Middle East's stability and Italy wants to boost ties with the country, according to a statement wrapping up foreign minister Luigi Di Maio's two-day visit to the region.
"The visit proved an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation with a strategic player for the stabilisation of the region and to promote economic and trade relations between Italy and Jordan, which have strong yet unfulfilled potential," the foreign ministry statement said.
Di Maio held talks with premier Bisher al-Khasawneh, foreign minister Ayman Safadi and trade, investment and planning minister Maha Al Ali during his visit to Jordan, said the statement.
Di Maio's Middle East trip also took in Saudi Arabia, where he and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud signed an accord on bilateral strategic dialogue, the statement said.
