A commander from the Kurdish Peoples Defense Units known as YPG has been killed in northern Syria, Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday, quoting local sources.
Haji Kurkhan, whose codename was Ali Botan died in the attack on his vehicle near the border town of Buveyer in Hasakah province's Qamishli district, Anadolu said, citing unnamed sources.
The sources spoke on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, according to Anadolu.
The YPG announced on social media that its member "Ali Botan" was killed in a suicide attack.
Kukhan was a commander of YPG special forces fighting the Islamic State jihadist group in the region, and was known to have lived in Turkey's eastern Van province, Anadolu said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for Kukhan's killing.
