The foreign and European affairs committees of Italy's lower house of parliament will on Thursday question Portugal's ambassador to Italy Pedro Nuno Bartolo on the priorities of his country's six-month rotating European Union presidency, the parliament said in a statement.
Advancing negotiations on a European climate law, economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and reaching a deal among EU states on a new migration pact have been signalled as key priorities by Portugal for its EU presidency from January to June.
Front-line Mediterranean nations like Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain are demanding more help from their EU neighbours, although the number of migrant arrivals has dwindled in recent years from a peak of over a million in 2015.
