The conference on Libya taking place in Paris next month and the Afghan crisis were at the centre of talks between Italy's premier Mario Draghi and France's president Emmanuel Macron Wednesday, Draghi's office said in a statement.

During their talks on the sidelines of a European Union-western Balkans summit in Brdo, Slovenia, Draghi and Macron discussed the conference on Libya that is being held in Paris on 12 November, according to the statement.

"There is close coordination between Italy, France and Germany to implement the commitments made in Berlin, which must turn into reality in Paris," the statement said.

At an international conference held in Berlin on 19 January, 2020, world powers pledged to uphold a UN arms embargo against Libya and to end external interference in the war-ravaged oil state.

France welcomes the G20 extraordinary meeting on Afghanistan that the Italian government is holding on 12 October, the statement said. Qatar, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the UN will also take part in the meeting.

Vaccines and solidarity with Africa will be central themes of the G20 summit taking place in Rome on 30-31 October, the statement said.

"There a shared commitment on the part of both countries to move forward together on these important topics," the statement said.
