Libya's internationally recognised premier Fayez al-Sarraj voiced "appreciation for the support given by Italy to the Libyan coastguard," the UN-backed government in Tripoli said on Wednesday in a statement.
The statement followed talks between Sarraj and Italy's ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino which covered a range of issues around cooperation between Italy and Libya and migration.
During his meeting with Sarraj, Buccino underlined the need for "effective joint coordination and the fight against human trafficking," according to the statement.
Buccino also praised the Libyan coastguard's operations to rescue migrants and to combat trafficking.
