Libya’s eastern parliament has approved the creation of a new political dialogue committee, Libyan news agency LANA reported on Wednesday.
In a session on Tuesday, the parliament in Tobruk set a four-month time-limit for the dialogue committee and discussed reforms to the panel, LANA quoted speaker Agila Saleh as saying.
The eastern-based parliament halted dialogue with the United Nations backed unity government of Fayez al-Sarraj in March following an attack by a rival armed group on major oil ports.
The conflict-wracked country has three rival governments and two parliaments in Tobruk and Tripoli which are battling for dominance, and a myriad of rival militias they are unable to control.
Libya plunged into chaos after the ousting of late strongman Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 2011 following an armed rebellion assisted by Western military intervention, as has since struggled with a democratic transition.
