Populist president Giuseppe Conte on Thursday hailed the six billion dollar contract won by Saipem to build a major liqueified natural gas site in Mozambique - the biggest contract in the Italian energy services company's history.
"Saipem has been awarded a major six-billion-dollar contract for the construction of an Anadarko LNG plant in Mozambique," Conte tweeted from Vietnam where he is on a two-day visit.
"A further important success for Italian companies abroad supported by our government," the tweet added.
The project will build two LNG trains, with a total nameplate capacity of 12.9 million tonnes per annum, alongside all related infrastructure including storage tanks and export jetty facilities, Saipem said on Wednesday, announcing the contract.
Under the contract, Saipem will lead a joint venture with US-Based McDermott International and Japan's Chiyoda Corporation to construct the LNG site, Saipem said.
