Police in southern Sardinia on Monday detained a man who allegedly fired blanks at the windows of a bank after its cash dispenser withheld his card.
Police were called to a local branch of the Bank of Sardinia in the town of Villacidro and took the man in for questioning after he allegedly shot at the bank's windows with a dummy pistol.
The man, who is said to have mental health issues, become enraged when the cashpoint swallowed his card and the bank manager told him it would take several hours to return it to him, investigators said.
Italian police are currently on alert after a series of robberies in Sardinia and are carrying out patrols at stores and banks.
