A court in the central Italian city of Pisa on Wednesday sentenced Antonio Logli to 20 years in prison for the 2012 murder of his wife and the disposal of her corpse.

Roberta Ragusa vanished from her home in Gello in the province of Pisa on the night of 12-13 January. Her corpse has never been found.

Logli was tried for her murder in a fast-track trial.

In March Italy's supreme Cassation Court ordered a new trial for Logli, who was cleared last year of killing Ragusa.

Ragusa went missing after she found out her husband was having an affair with Sara Calzolaio, the former babysitter of their two children.

Logli reported Ragusa missing on 13 January, claiming he had woken up in the morning and found she had not slept in the marital bed.

Calzolaio later testified that Logli had told her to destroy the cell phones they used to communicate as lovers.

Calzolaio later testified that he had told her to destroy the cell phones they used to communicate as lovers. She threw them away and later led investigators to their location.

Logli was uncooperative in the search for Ragusa and initially tried to hide his relationship with Calzolaio from police, claiming his wife had walked out.
