Head of state Sergio Mattarella on Friday voiced Italy's "apprehension" over missing Italian aid worker Silvia Romano, who was kidnapped in Kenya in November 2018.
"There is apprehension over the fate of Silvia Romano, who was abducted in Kenya while carrying out her generous work for social solidarity and peace," said Mattarella.
"She (Romano) must remain in our thoughts. Meanwhile Italy's institutions remain committed to obtaining her release," Mattarella said.
He was inaugurating a voluntary sector event in the northeast Italian city of Padova.
Romano, who was 23 at the time, was taken by gunmen from a small rural hotel in Kilifi County in Kenya's south-east on 20 November, 2018.
A volunteer for Italian charity Africa Milele Onlus, Romano was the first foreigner to be kidnapped in Kenya since a spate of abductions threatened its tourism resurgence in 2011.
