Italy's head of state Sergio Mattarella on Monday received Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Quirinale Palace during the Turkish president's one-day visit to Rome.
After their meeting, Mattarella and Erdogan lunched together at the Quirinale, the palace said. Italy's foreign minister Angelino Alfano was also present, the palace stated.
The 50-minute talks between Mattarella and Erdogan centred on bilateral ties, according to Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency.
Erdogan earlier had an audience at the Vatican with Pope Francis and was later due to hold talks with Italy's premier Paolo Gentiloni.
